<trans-abstract xml:lang="en">
<title>Relevance</title><p>Relevance. To evaluate the efficacy of firocoxib as part of comprehensive postoperative therapy in dogs undergoing total tooth extraction due to stage III–IV periodontal disease and surgical treatment of mandibular symphyseal fractures, and to compare its clinical effectiveness with meloxicam.</p>
<title>Methods</title><p>Methods. The study was conducted at the Veterinary Center “Chetyre Lapy” (Korolev, Moscow Region, Russian Federation) from July 2025 to April 2026. A total of 47 dogs of various breeds, ages, and sexes were included. Thirty-four dogs underwent total tooth extraction because of advanced periodontal disease, while thirteen dogs received surgical treatment of mandibular symphyseal fractures using cerclage wire fixation. All animals received regional anesthesia of the maxillary and mandibular nerve branches with articaine as part of multimodal analgesia. Postoperative management included amoxicillin therapy and administration of either firocoxib or meloxicam. Treatment efficacy was assessed based on postoperative pain severity, appetite recovery, postoperative swelling, and the occurrence of complications.</p>
<title>Results</title><p>Results. In dogs receiving firocoxib after total tooth extraction, severe postoperative pain within 24 hours was observed in 15.8% of animals compared to 40.0% in the meloxicam group. Spontaneous food intake during the first postoperative day was maintained in 84.2% of dogs treated with firocoxib and in 60.0% of dogs treated with meloxicam. Recovery of normal feeding behavior occurred faster in the firocoxib group both after dental procedures (1.8 ± 0.4 vs. 3.1 ± 0.8 days) and after mandibular symphyseal fracture repair (2.1 ± 0.6 vs. 3.8 ± 1.1 days). No adverse effects associated with firocoxib administration were observed.</p>
<title>Conclusions</title><p>Conclusions. Firocoxib administered at a dose of 5 mg/kg provides effective control of postoperative pain and inflammation in dogs undergoing dental and maxillofacial surgical procedures. The drug promotes faster recovery of feeding behavior, reduces the need for additional analgesia, and demonstrates good tolerability. The findings support the use of firocoxib as a valuable component of multimodal analgesia in veterinary dentistry and maxillofacial surgery.</p>
</trans-abstract><kwd-group xml:lang="ru"><kwd>собака</kwd><kwd>фирококсиб</kwd><kwd>ветеринарная стоматология</kwd><kwd>пародонтопатия</kwd><kwd>тотальное удаление зубов</kwd><kwd>симфизарный перелом нижней челюсти</kwd><kwd>мультимодальная аналгезия</kwd><kwd>послеоперационная боль</kwd><kwd>ветеринарная хирургия</kwd><kwd>стоматологические операции</kwd></kwd-group><kwd-group xml:lang="en"><kwd>dog</kwd><kwd>firocoxib</kwd><kwd>veterinary dentistry</kwd><kwd>periodontal disease</kwd><kwd>total tooth extraction</kwd><kwd>mandibular symphyseal fracture</kwd><kwd>multimodal analgesia</kwd><kwd>postoperative pain</kwd><kwd>veterinary surgery</kwd><kwd>dental surgery</kwd></kwd-group></article-meta></front><back><ref-list><title>References</title><ref id="cit1"><label>1</label><citation-alternatives><mixed-citation xml:lang="ru">Wallis C., Holcombe L.J.
