Abstract
Aquaculture of salmon, as well as other species of fish, has important economic, social and political significance, ensuring the food security of people all over the world. Intensification of any agricultural production inevitably brings risks related to the development of infectious diseases within the population; therefore, veterinary control and anti-epizootic measures are carried out on an ongoing basis for the most common and significant ones. However, the infectious pathology of hydrobionts includes a number of diseases previously not detected in our country, which pose a threat to Russian aquaculture due to the import of juveniles and fertilized caviar from abroad, specifically from countries with poor epizootic status, one of these – epizootic hematopoietic necrosis (EHN); this overview provides veterinarians and aquaculture professionals with insights into the pathogen’s etiology, epizootiology, clinical and pathological signs, transmission mechanisms, and disinfection protocols.
